Metallized Film Supplier For Barrier Packaging
Metallized film is used when buyers need better light, aroma, oxygen or moisture barrier than clear film while keeping a flexible rollstock format. It is commonly reviewed for coffee, snacks, powders, pet food, labels and laminated packaging structures.
Buyer Specification Checklist
| Thickness | Confirm base film thickness and metallized layer requirement by barrier target, lamination route and package format. |
|---|---|
| Roll width | Confirm target width, slitting tolerance, edge quality requirement and whether the roll is for printing, lamination, bag making or automatic packing. |
| Core / roll diameter | Confirm core diameter, outside diameter limit, winding direction, roll weight preference and packing method before sampling. |
| Surface / treatment | Confirm metallized side, corona treatment, lamination side, optical density expectation and whether the structure will be printed or laminated. |
| Application | Used for barrier packaging, coffee bags, snack packaging, powder packaging, labels, decorative packaging and laminated rollstock. |
| Documents | Request available TDS, COA, SDS/MSDS or application-specific files by exact material grade and order scope. |
Metallized Film Selection Logic
Metallized PET, metallized BOPP and other metallized webs can solve different packaging problems. Buyers should define whether moisture barrier, oxygen barrier, aroma retention, light barrier or appearance is the priority.
Metallized film is not the same as aluminum foil. Foil may provide stronger barrier, while metallized film can offer a different cost, flex and appearance balance. Pilot tests should compare real shelf-life needs.
Sample Approval And QC
Sample review should include metallized appearance, pinhole concerns, optical density if specified, lamination behavior, seal structure, roll edge, winding tension and carton packing.
QC may include base film appearance, metallized uniformity, bond performance after lamination, treatment condition, roll protection and batch traceability.
Common Metallized Film RFQ Mistakes
Common gaps include asking for “silver film” without defining barrier target, base film, thickness, metallized side or lamination route.
A complete RFQ should include base material, thickness, width, barrier target, lamination structure, application, roll diameter, core size, monthly usage and documents.
RFQ Details That Reduce Quotation Delay
Send material type, thickness, width, roll diameter, core diameter, surface treatment, print or lamination process, monthly usage, target market, required documents and packing method. If replacing an existing grade, provide the current structure or sample issue so the technical team can compare the requirement correctly.

Procurement FAQ
Is metallized film the same as aluminum foil?
No. Metallized film has a deposited metal layer on film, while aluminum foil is a separate foil layer. Barrier, flex and cost behavior differ.
What is metallized PET used for?
It is often used in barrier laminates for coffee, snacks, powders, labels and decorative packaging.
What should I send for metallized film quotation?
Send base film, thickness, width, metallized side, barrier target, lamination route, application and roll format.
