Flexible packaging structures should be chosen around the product, distribution conditions and converting route. This guide explains the questions that turn broad requirements such as moisture resistance, shelf appeal or high barrier into a sample-ready material brief.
Start with the packed product
Clarify whether the product is sensitive to moisture, oxygen, light, odour transfer, grease, puncture or freezer conditions. Then record the target pack format, shelf-life expectation and the actual print, lamination and packing equipment.
Use common structures as discussion points
Structures such as PET/PE, BOPP/CPP, PET/VMPET/PE and PET/AL/PE can help structure the discussion. They are examples, not universal prescriptions. The final material choice needs to be checked against the product, destination market and approved sample.
Make sample evaluation repeatable
Capture the proposed layer order, gauge, print side, seal requirement, roll dimensions and quality checks in writing. A repeatable test on the intended converting or packing line gives the buyer a better basis for approving recurring supply.
